2011 Taste of Tulsa - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma

Tubular TulsaSCFM will be donating two custom metal sculptures to the 2011 Taste of Tulsa, benefiting Big Brothers - Big Sisters.  The 27th Annual Event will be held at the Tulsa Convention Center on January 29, 2011.  More than 800 guests enjoy the evening featuring food from more than 45 of the area's finest restaurants, silent and live auctions, a wine pull, live music and dancing. All proceeds from this event support the Big Brothers - Big Sisters of Oklahoma vision of successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools and stronger communities for all.

SCFM staff from several departments worked together to come up with the idea and design and then executed the plans by calling on the craftsmanship of our shop technicians.  It is a way to combine the skill of our employees, and our pride in our company and our industry, all of which are richly and historically linked with the city of Tulsa. SCFM asked it's skilled fabricators to create a special art piece that depicts our downtown skyline.  The Skyline of Tulsa has been reproduced by using metal tubing, nuts, bolts and connectors to create a one-of-a-kind representation of our cityscape.

The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma

… is one of the largest private, non-profit hunger relief organizations in the state. Located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Food Bank distributes donated food and other grocery items to 450 Partner Programs in 24 counties of Eastern Oklahoma. These programs include food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after school programs and senior citizen centers. In turn, those programs collectively feed 60,000 people each week, the equivalent of 800,000 meals per month. In Fiscal Year 2009, the Food Bank distributed more than 9.5 million pounds of food.

In addition, the Food Bank helps raise public awareness about hunger and the role of food banking in alleviating hunger. Every day hungry Oklahomans are being fed as a result of the Food Bank’s efforts to fight hunger, feed hope.

In November of 2010, SCFM Employees  assisted  by donating their time in the Food Bank’s warehouse by boxing food and household products for families in need.

SCFM Employees are will participate in the Food Bank's Annual Drive in the Spring of 2011.

TUBULAR TULSA

SCFM has asked it’s skilled fabricators to create a special art piece that depicts our downtown skyline. The Skyline of Tulsa has been reproduced by using metal tubing, nuts, bolts and connectors to create a one-of-a-kind representation of the our cityscape.

This 13’ metal sculpture was crafted in the fall of 2010 and is proudly displayed in SCFM’s new Boardroom.  The Boardroom had a large wall that begged for unique décor.  SCFM staff from several departments worked together to come up with the idea and design and then executed the plans by calling on the craftsmanship of our shop technicians.  It is a way to combine the skill of our employees, and our pride in our company and our industry, all of which are richly and historically linked with the city of Tulsa.

SALES TRAINING

Several of the staff at SCFM attended a 20 hours sales training seminar  - High Q Selling.   Our staff continues to focus on ways to be more effective in our interactions with our clients, as well as within our internal working relationships.

The Training was conducted off site at the Hyatt Place by Jenny and Dave Simons with Growth Performance Systems.   There were many facets of the "sales" process that were creatively shown.  We completed the training with an appreciation of what factors come together to create trust in growing a good client relationship.

Bowling Alley
One of the "teamwork" exercises shown was
demonstrated with the "Bowling Alley" .   Each
team member was given a pvc 1" tube (cut in
half like a channel about 2' long).   The team
 was given one marble.

The object of the exercise was to have the
marble roll through each team mate's pvc
channel across the entire length of the room
(25') without the marble being touched or
without falling out of the pvc tubes.

2010 Christmas Party

SCFM held our annual Christmas Party Friday, December 17th at the Double Tree in downtown Tulsa.   The evening's entertainment was provided by the Edison High School's Jazz Band under the Direction of Danny Burnes.   The Jazz Band is currently ranked 5A Champions.  Their performance was excellent.

There was a drawing for gift certificates throughout the night and several employees were able to leave the night with an unexpected shopping trip to be scheduled!

A special thanks to all those that helped plan the party!
